Peacemaker Lobster & Crab

Are you tired of going to the same type of place to get a great seafood meal? Are you in the mood for something fresh and different? If so, then allow me to introduce you to Peacemaker Seafood. The name draws you in and the menu will make you want to stay until you’ve tried 2 of everything. Peacemaker is one location that is definitely not your typical “run of the mill” type of seafood restaurant. Located in Benton Park on Sydney Street, Peacemaker is most definitely in an area that encourages relaxation and maybe even a stroll either before or after dining here. The first thing most people notice aside from the lovely neighborhood is the patio area and façade that make you think almost immediately of beach side dining establishments. The front of the building consists of brick with lovely white frame accents as well as a rather [...]

1818 Chophouse

Just yesterday I had the privilege of dining at a truly amazing restaurant in Edwardsville. I had noticed 1818 Chophouse quite a few times before throughout my travels in Edwardsville, but due to time constraints, there never seemed to be a large enough window of opportunity to stop and try it out. Imagine my happiness when this restaurant was decided upon for a review this past week. 1818 Chophouse is located in the heart of Edwardsville and is easily accessible with ample parking. To a person like me, ease of access and extra parking are very important when visiting a restaurant. I’ve actually visited a few restaurants in the past, and due to the lack of parking, I ultimately decided to dine elsewhere, much to my chagrin as well as my dining companions at the time. This was not the case though, as there were quite a few spots right [...]

Wang Gang

Wang Gang is an Edwardsville’s restaurant that is easily accessible by way of Interstate 270 and Hwy 157. It holds true to the saying “don’t blink or you’ll miss it!” Situated within a small strip of stores, it truly is rather hard to spot. In fact, if I hadn’t been invited to dine at this location, I might never have known it was there, but I’m glad I tried it out. From the outside, this location looks like most other buildings you would find in a typical shopping plaza with a tan exterior and the location advertised at the top. Being that it is in very close proximity to SIUE (within 5 miles), I expected parking to be a bit of a hassle, but luckily for me I was able to find a spot right near the front. I got there around 1pm and I took full advantage of the [...]

El Mezcal

If you have ever driven down Godfrey Road through Alton, then you have probably noticed El Mezcal. It is set just off of the road, and the patio area has a small grove of trees that separates it from the Pizza Hut that is located next door. It's not too much to look at from the outside, but don't let that fool you. Thanks to recent renovations throughout the restaurant, it is nicer than ever before. One of the first things you may notice with this restaurant is that the parking lot is either very full or almost empty. This place gives new meaning to the term "rush hour", in that when it is lunch or dinner time, the parking lot can seem to be packed, but that should not stop you from finding a parking space and trying it out. The renovations have really opened up the restaurant and [...]

4204 Main Street Brewing Company

Have you ever noticed how certain restaurants have the ability to "breathe new life" into a town once they become established? I certainly have, and the restaurant Main Street Brewing Company, also known as 4204, is no exception to this statement. It is a lovely place to dine if you have the time, and it is conveniently located within the Alton Square Mall's parking lot, albeit a bit off to the side so as to not affect their own parking. When compared to many of the other restaurants inside Alton, Illionois, this one ranks on the higher end of the scale in terms of atmosphere. The interior of the restaurant is full of dark wood and low lighted accents, and more often than not, the tone of the patrons is nothing if not hushed. I find this helps to encourage everyone to relax and enjoy their meal without having to [...]

Hokkaido

If you're a fan of buffets, then you've probably heard of Hokkaido’s, especially in you live in or around the Metro East. This place truly offers a little bit of everything in hopes of pleasing even the most discerning of patrons, even going so far as hosting a hibachi that runs every day during business hours. The fact that the hibachi service is included in the price of the buffet and not as an additional charge does seem to be quite a selling point to most, as I myself have heard exclaimed a time or two. Like most places that I review, it doesn't seem like much when you drive by, but when you do take notice of it, it does make for an interesting meal destination. The sign itself advertises for steak, sushi and seafood all located within, and if you are a fan of any of the options, [...]

Who Dat’s

A few short days ago, I had the opportunity to dine at a restaurant that is by far one of the most original dining establishments I have ever had the chance to visit, over in Columbia, Illinois. One of the first things I noticed when looking at this restaurant was the sign hanging by the front entrance. The sign, at first glance, seemed to me to be a simple piece of orange paper enclosed in a black frame, but when I began reading it, I realized that it was the entire history of the place and it was such a nice story that if I hadn't known it to be true I probably wouldn't have believed it. This restaurant, from what I was told, is best known for the fact that a New Orleans boy fell in love with a local girl and their love turned into a family and [...]

Bonefish Grill

This past week, I had the pleasure of reviewing a well known Brentwood, Missouri restaurant known as Bonefish Grill with a friend of mine. I chose this location because of its impressive seafood selection as well as its close proximity to the heart of the city. The journey to this location was a bit daunting due to road construction, but the meal made the journey quite worth it. This location in particular was easy to spot because it was so close to the main road, but I'd be lying if I said it looked like a location with as much to offer as the online menu boasted. If anything, it seemed rather unremarkable upon first glance. However, once you enter the restaurant through the rather impressive revolving door, you instantly begin to realize how their upscale reputation has been earned. One of the first things that I took notice of [...]

Ruby Tuesday

This past week, I had the opportunity to dine at a Ruby Tuesday's. I wasn't too excited at first, because as with most franchises, you get the feeling that if you've dined at one, you've dined at them all. I myself had this same thought, along with the reminder of how everyone always raves about the salad bar, no matter which location they are at. This location did have ample parking much to my surprise, especially considering how busy Collinsville can be at times, and the fact that the exterior of the establishment was very well kept was a fact that was not lost on me. Aside from these niceties however, the restaurant itself seemed to be very much like most of the other Ruby Tuesday's that I have dined at previously. Exterior aside, the foyer was quite clean and the hostess was very gracious, allowing us to be seated [...]

Mike Shannon’s Grill

Sports, baseball and the Saint Louis Cardinals were my first thoughts when I was invited to go to Mike Shannon's Grill. Looking at it the location from the outside though, those were the last words that came to mind just from first glance. What I initially saw in terms of the restaurant reminded me nothing of baseball, but instead of upscale luncheons and nice boutiques all within walking distance of one another. The outside of Mike Shannon's is an unassuming brick facade with a simple yet elegant title above, and a gorgeous patio area to the side. I found myself thinking less of sports and more of relaxation as I began walking closer. Inside the restaurant, I was greeted by gorgeous wood paneling accents and lovely dark blue paint that complimented nicely with the natural light that was flowing through the large windows. As we were greeted by a hostess and [...]

Seafood by Crushed Velvet

Don't judge a book by its cover. It's a phrase that has been tried, tested and proven throughout the ages, and I found myself thinking of this particular idiom when I first encountered the restaurant known as Seafood by Crushed Velvet. I had looked at some reviews prior to trying this restaurant, and I'd be lying if I said it looked like a place that would provide an unforgettable dining experience upon first glance, but luckily for myself and my dining companion, that's exactly what happened. When I first came to the location I was supposed to be at, I originally thought I had made a wrong turn, because the awning above the restaurant actually advertised for a different restaurant. Le Sweet Caffe is a restaurant that, from what I understand, was known for its coffees and brunch-type items and I knew that was the opposite of what I was [...]

Gulf Shores Restaurant & Grill

When you think of the Blues Brothers, what's the first thing that you think of? It might be Chicago, where the movie was filmed, or a Blues-type bar where the music makes the club itself well known. What if I told you, there's a restaurant right inside of Edwardsville called Gulf Shores Bar and Grill that not only has amazing likenesses of both of the Blues Brothers, but that they actually encourage you to take pictures with them? I myself was pleasantly surprised upon first seeing the restaurant, as both Blues Brothers grace the front as quite realistic statues situated out front, both in quite relaxed positions with a spot in the middle reserved for anyone that loves selfies or is looking for a good "photo-op" to send back to the family. The Blues Brothers isn't the only thing that is surprisingly amazing about this restaurant either. When you first [...]
