Get Ready for the Boston Seafood Festival!

The Boston Fisheries Foundation will hold its 8th Annual Boston Seafood Festival on the historic Boston Fish Pier on Sunday, August 4th, 2019 from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.  The event will showcase some of the best seafood, with plenty of chef demos and educational events that are fun for the whole family. The Boston Fisheries Foundation started in 2012 by some audacious fish guys that wanted to celebrate Boston’s seafood scene while preserving maritime artifacts and history for future generations to enjoy.

The event will include:

  • Amazing Seafood Vendors & Food Trucks, which include non-seafood items
  • Celebrity Chef Demos
  • Oyster Shucking Contest
  • Fish Cutting Demos
  • Lion Dancers
  • Roving Pirates
  • All day Lobster Bake Tent
  • Harpoon Beer Garden
  • Blessing of the Fleet
  • Kids Activities
  • Live Entertainment
  • Fantastic Views

And what makes this event so special is the spotlight on sustainability for the seafood industry, while introducing many of the delicious, lesser-known seafood varieties. At this event, you can learn about the environmental impacts of fishing, and how to support the fishermen that fish sustainably. At this event, you’ll have the opportunity to talk directly with fisherman and vendors that are taking steps to support sustainability, while learning how your small contributions make big impacts on the fishing industry. Here are a few examples you can do today to support sustainability:

  • Ask your seafood department which seafood items are certified sustainable
  • Serve different types of seafood, giving commonly exploited species a rest
  • Find new ways to cook alternative species to inspire friends and family to try something different
  • Buy fish that eat low on the food chain than larger predatory fish that need time to grow and are susceptible to over fishing
  • Celebrate fresh, wild seafood at its peak by ordering with the seasons. Here is a great chart to know peak times for each species in the Northeast:

So come celebrate the best seafood Boston has to offer, and meet the city’s highest quality vendors and adventurous fisherman that bring us delicious seafood delicacies from the Northeast.
